Brookshire is a small Waller County city on I-10, roughly 34 miles west of downtown Houston, and it is the one place in this area where we found a full fence ordinance online.
City and county rules
Brookshire's residential fence article requires a permit to build or rebuild a fence and for a major repair, defined as replacing more than 20 feet in six months. Minor repair is exempt. Maximum height is 8 feet in side and rear yards and 6 feet in front yards, and front-yard fences over 4 feet must be at least 75 percent open. Allowed materials include wood, wrought iron, chain link, stone, masonry and brick. Prohibited materials include broken concrete, razor wire, plywood, corrugated steel and fiberglass. Fences must be maintained, and a lean over 15 degrees is not allowed. Fees are set by council and were not stated on the page.
