Wharton is the county seat of Wharton County, on the Colorado River about 60 miles southwest of Houston.
City and county rules
The city's amended building code exempts fences not over 7 feet high from permits. But the city's Code Enforcement page also lists a Fencing Ordinance and a 2025 fencing update ordinance that we could not read, so the rules may be stricter. Contractors must register with Code Enforcement, which asks for a certificate of insurance naming the city, and license documents where applicable.
