Work through this list before you call for an estimate. It saves time and helps us give you a price that will hold.
Before the estimate
- Find your deed restrictions and HOA design guidelines. See the HOA guide
- Locate your property survey; mark boundaries and any easements
- Decide the fence purpose: privacy, pets, pool, view, security
- Walk the line; note gates, slopes, trees, sprinklers, pool equipment
- Talk to neighbors, especially if the fence is shared. See shared fences
- Check whether a permit applies. See permits by jurisdiction
- Take photos of the current fence and line
Questions to ask any contractor
- Can I see insurance?
- How are posts set and how deep?
- What is included: removal, haul-off, cleanup, stain?
- What is the warranty in writing?
- Who handles the HOA application?
- What is the schedule and what could change it?
After you hire
- Get the scope, materials, and price in writing
- Confirm HOA approval before work begins
- Confirm utility marking
- Clear the fence line and secure pets
- Do a walk-through when the work is done
